Typhoon Koppu hit Shenzhen last night and it’s still hanging around – from my window I can see the Chinese flag whipping madly in the wind, and the school’s basketball court beneath it is soaked in rain and puddles. With my door and windows shuddering like ax murderers were assaulting them all night, it was a little tough to get to sleep – but I kept remembering my mom tell stories about preparing for typhoons when she was little in Hong Kong, and how fun she had thought they were.
Everybody gets excited for another reason: having typhoons means that schools close for the day! So my classes are canceled and I can watch the spectacle from my room…except all that’s left unsettled is, again, the pesky problem of feeding myself. Maybe my next trip to the convenience store will be the most adventurous walk I’ve taken yet…
Edit: It was a pretty uneventful walk, the typhoon died down by then.
